I wish...

... beautiful girls had the ability to turn my head and make my heart race
... I could tell which girls were beautiful
... I could ignore guys on the street, at the pool, at the gym
... my mind would naturally dwell on something benign like gardening or family history
... I were in love
... I knew what would happen tomorrow, in a year, in 20 years
... there were an army of righteous Saints who could fight this battle together
... I knew what I wanted to be when I grow up
... Church events would serve healthy food
... I could help everyone who is struggling in life
... I were better at finding people who need help
... I knew what God wanted me to do

  2. I love at church events how we pray "please bless that this food will strenth and nourish us" and its a bowl of jelly beans and a bag of cheetos.

Kidding aside,a lot of what you wrote resonated with me. I wish for a lot of those things as well.

  3. Welcome to the site, Konrad. Thanks for joining the conversation.

GMB & Konrad: Yeah. I used to have a big issue when I first realized that junk food was promoted by Church functions. I went to a "meal" this week that had only pizza, brownies, and cookies. But then I looked around at the people around me and realized that there were much more important things to worry about - helping people attend Church functions, for one. Creating a social environment, for another. Once they're there, then you can show them the joy of being healthy. At least in my wards, things have changed. You show by example, and it happens.

  4. And as far as the other wishes go, I still haven't figured out how to make them happen on my own. The one time God has given me a blank check, I almost asked for some of these things. But then I realized that I needed something else even more... and, long story short, I asked Him to help me be a better person instead. I'd probably do the same thing again today... and ask for the faith to know that everything will work out in the end.

  5. hey GMG as far as the healthy food at church goes i'd say our small tiny branch would so win this race!i'm from Ankara (capital of Turkey) and since we only have 10-12 people in the branch (i'm an investigator and have been since 2003)we prefer to cook home made dishes instead of junk food for church activites such as mediterranean side dishes with olive oil, pilafs (traditional turkish rice dish) and lots of fresh fruits...so ya...jealous enough? =)) (btw. i really like your blog and your insights)

  7. When it comes to seeing beauty in women, I think that the biggest thing that matters is if they look like they take care of themselves. If they put care into how they look, not with the intent to dazzle others but to feel confident in themselves. Scientifically speaking, what makes women beautiful is if their faces are symmetrical and they have good teeth and eyes. But don't stress about it too much. Though physical beauty is, for most people, the most immediate aspect of attraction, it's really not everything. Personality is all that matters in the end.
